Founded in 1948, “Yakigaki no Hayashi” is a restaurant located in the Omotesando Shopping Street of the sightseeing area of Miyajima. Our restaurant was the first in the country to serve grilled oysters to customers and is the originator of grilled oysters in Japan. We stock fine ingredients and prepare all our dishes with techniques developed over many years for our customers to enjoy.

The oysters we serve here at our restaurant are “Jigozen Oysters,” which have received numerous awards, including the Emperor’s Cup - Fisheries Agency Director Award. What’s more, we select only the “san-nen mono” (3 year) oysters which contain large amounts of meat and have strong umami flavors.

Jizen Oysters are raised in the Seto Inland Sea area of Hiroshima, which is known as the “home of oysters.” We use only the finest quality “san-nen mono” (3 year) oysters here at our restaurant.

Our grilling techniques have been handed down for generations from the time of our founding. The oysters are turned over time and time again to ensure that they are cooked thoroughly. These large, meaty oysters are cooked and steamed inside their shells to trap in all of their umami flavors.

All oysters are grilled to order here in our restaurant, so we require 15 minutes before we can serve them to our customers.

In general, the season for oysters is said to be the winter months when temperatures drop. However, because the oysters we serve here in our restaurant are raised in an area of the ocean with a stable water temperature, customers can enjoy fresh and delicious oysters here all year round.
